Bio

Richard Zulch founded ZulchLab in 2005 to develop technology for solid-state lighting, seeing the new high-brightness LEDs as an opportunity to combine his passion for lighting design, software development, and electronics. Years of intense effort have resulted in numerous inventions in signal processing for color and intensity control, along with several fundamental patents. Key to these innovations is the combination of solid engineering with an eye for lighting aesthetics, honed as lighting designer for over a hundred stage productions in the last decade. Zulch is also a CAD/CAM expert and machinist, fabricating most ZulchLab prototypes.

Zulch was previously Vice President of EMC after their acquisition of Dantz Development Corporation, the company he co-founded with his brother Larry in 1984. As Chairman and CTO of Dantz, Zulch was the designer and architect of the award-winning Retrospect product line. In 1998 Macworld editors awarded Zulch their Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on storage technology. Prior to starting Dantz, Zulch worked at Hewlett Packard’s Colorado Telecommunications Division, where his team created the HP 4953A protocol analyzer. He also designed the A-65 microprocessor-based multi-channel programmable pulse generator used as a stimulation source for retinal studies in neurophysiology. Zulch has been awarded ten US Patents with more pending. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with an emphasis on software design, from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
